We recently moved into an apartment in Envigado. It has a pretty well stocked kitchen with an air fryer, rice cooker, etc. but on the stove was this contraption that I can't figure out. It looks like you'd hold it over the gas burner to grill something, but then how does that work all the drippings just fall onto the stove and burner?
Has anyone seen/used something like this and is it what I'm assuming it is? We know a few locals in nearby MedellÃn but I'd prefer not to look like a dumbass so checking here first. Thanks in advance.
My guess, and it's just a guess, would be to put between the flame and a pot/pan if the lowest flame is still too high.
Might also spread the heat more evenly than just putting it on the burner.
That's definitely a heat diffuser. AKA flame tamer. You put the pot on top of it.
If you do a search for heat diffuser you'll see many different versions. Some have handles, others don't.
Mostly used on gas stoves (I use it myself https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077Y...pa_mw_detail_0), but I guess it could be used on old fashioned electric plates too. (wouldn't put it on a glass top, though)
Great for keep food warm, also prevents burning.
