I presently have a GE upright, with no agitator, and it's starting to go...I've been searching thru reviews and it seems like there isn't one machine that has all good reviews....

I'd like a top loader machine....

So, I thought I'd reasearch online and ask you all what model you have and the pros and cons about it...I am not looking for a front loader...had one, didn't like it.

Thanks

I'd suggest going to a used appliance store. Not only will the owner know which machines hold up and which don't, but may have a used one in stock at far less than the price of a new one.

Speed Queen is very expensive, except you buy the very basic ones.

yes and no...we needed to get a washer when we moved into this house in 2017 and went to the many generation appliance mom and pop store in Irwin - same one my step dads folks used when he was young..

We had one delivered and installed for essentially $50 bux more than than the 'better' chinese junk at bestlowesdepotbuyhome - which you have to purchase additional warranty for - ours has 5 years IN HOME service (which just expired), not 1-2-3 years bring it in to us warranty.

Long gone are the days of the fairly bullet proof maytag or kenmore at civilian prices. The queen is the only maker made in the US from (mostly) Us parts, by people who give a damn and stand beside it. MY clothes will never be in something else in any of my houses again as I refresh both. My dryer here is a queen too. almost 40 years old. Granted, they have gone UP the last couple years in price...but what has not?

I would go with Speed Queen as well, I have done extensive research on W&D. SQ is made to last! It has been around for decades, and it is made in the USA. However, at my age now I need to decide if I want to spend the extra money, as SQ will probably outlive me. Oh, I would ONLY get ANY washer with an agitator.

The link below is one I copied when researching myself. It explains what company owns what brands. SQ is NOT listed as it is their own product, and only their product.

I LIKE this appliance seller site. The young man is very up-front. Be sure to read the comments.

Last but not least, this guy talks about EVERYTHING you need to consider BEFORE buying. It is not just about SQ.

Other than Speed Queen, you won't find any current top loader with the old-school mechanical controls. Even the cheapest models are now all electronic. You may have to look for a used model if you want mechanical controls. The last mechanical models (besides Speed Queen) were made around 2009. And manufacturers probably put less effort into quality control into their cheap top loaders to reduce costs.

I'd like to put a good word in here for Kenmore Elite washer and dryer sets. Hardy and efficient.
