I have noticed that more and more major retailers have either gone out of business, might go out of business, or are presently in Chapter 11 -- and even the ones that seem healthy seem to have cut WAY back selection and inventory, especially in home linens and children's and women's clothing. YMMV.

But if your favorites stores do go out of business, what stores will get your business that you formerly game to another store?

For cloths, even if some of my favorite brick-and-mortar stores go out of business, the line of cloths (designers) they carry will be picked up by another retailer. I'm also finding that at my price point, retailer are more open to try and buy for online orders.

As far as linens and white goods, I just use the manufacture's direct to consumer systems. Same applies for many other purchases, buy from the source.

The retail world is certainly changing but some of it only matters when you need the retailer's pricing to buy. If its the product you're buying without the price consideration, believe me it's seems to always be available.

Good question, OP. Many of the stores I shopped at are now out of business. There are a few left but even those are closing in some cities and I'm not willing to drive 40 miles, just to go shopping. It is becoming increasingly difficult but fortunately, I don't have to buy business attire any longer. I don't care for online shopping, though. I do it but I don't like it. I really miss going into stores and trying on shoes and clothes, touching the fabric, seeing the actual colors before I plunk down money. Now you can shop in your pajamas while sipping on your coffee. Where's the fun in that?
