I made a visit today to a car dealership, driving 35 miles, to hopefully purchase a car. The reason I chose to shop at Kelly was due to a flyer I received stating I had won a prize AND that there were hundreds of vehicles to choose from. The two gentlemen I spoke with were VERY high pressure sales men; to the point of being offensive. They would have sold me a car without an engine if I would have been naive enough to buy it. The cars that they showed me stunk, had major problems and were VERY overpriced…by at least $2000.00. One more thing, there were NOT hundreds of cars to choose from…many appeared to be obtained from the junk yard.
Further, the so called $1000.00 shopping gift I had won, was a cheap scam. The shipping and handling covered the cost of the item and a sizable profit. Now I understand that nothing in life is free. However, why not give away a free candy bar or something that a person who has drove 35 miles to shop at YOUR dealership, would walk away with a feeling that you are an honorable dealership. In today’s economy, repeat business is a huge part of future sales and a dealership in a small community, can’t afford to have negative associations.
This experience has placed a VERY negative association in my mind regarding Kelly’s honesty and integrity. Even the dealership mechanic was dishonest regarding the condition of a car. Maybe one could surmise that if a dealership brings in crooks to sale cars, they too are crooks.
I am emailing several locations that rate dealerships…all that I can find…and sharing my experience with them. I am further emailing the Ingham County Community News and Lansing State Journal. My hope is that Kelly dealership will be forced to become a dealership with integrity. Further, that it will be a deterrent to hire such dishonest companies to sale and promote such junk. I simply do NOT want some naïve soul to be tricked into buying a car at Kelly’s.
Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to purchase a vehicle.
