I'd have to say that the "device" (not really an appliance) I've had the longest is a 12v power supply. It plugs into the wall and gives you car-battery voltage via two screw terminals on the back. Over the years I've used it for a lot of things, most recently using cigarette lighter cellphone chargers and whatnot in the house. I got it used from a friend when I was a teenager in the mid 80s.
I also have a cassette player (not boombox) and a RF scanner (aka "police scanner") from the same era. Also a small portable Sony LCD TV - probably the first of its kind. Certainly 1st generation. The image is generated in an LCD and then reflected off a mirror. You watch the mirror to watch TV. Primitive by today's standards, but a pretty clever idea back then.
I was given an upright freezer by our pastor when he moved. He bought it new in 1960. When my ex adn I divorced she kept the freezer out in the garage where we had it. 2 years ago she paid a man to tear the garage down. Told him there wasn't anything out there to keep. Didnt tell him there was a freezer out there with food in it and electricity in the whole garage. they found out when the teeth on the excavator bucket went through the roof and through the door of the freezer. I was thinking about if she had swapped places with the freezer at the last minute, but that would be rough on the bucket! lol
My sister has custody of the freezer. My grandparents gave this freezer to my parents as a wedding present back in 1956.
My washer and dryer are about 18 years old. My fridge is at least that old too.
Rotary timing dials are cheap while electronic =control are expensive. Most refigerators now have cheap finishes and have electronic controls of defrost which frequently go out. None of teh new outside ari conditioning unit are built very well it seems.
Kenmore microwave and vacuum from about 1982, have a GE fridge I bought used for $50 that I think is from the 1950's, works fine thanks. Krups coffee maker and coffee grinder from about 1987, work perfectly (secret on coffee maker is distilled water, IMHO makes better tasting coffee as well) Sony walkman from about 1991 that I use all the time on the treadmill/stair stepper at the gym.
