Wow, well obviously what I experienced was not the norm! Perhaps it was just a "bad day" but I'm glad I canceled and went elsewhere. I'll just have to see if the other one is any better.. here's hoping!

Hot refreshments!! Every place I've been around here (docs, dentist, eye docs) has "no food or drinks in waiting area" signs up.. which is fine for a 15 minute wait but after an hour I'm wanting water at least!

Foot massages!! My 16 year old wouldn't go for it but I would!

My dentist reently completed a total renovation of his office....TVs in every room, granite countertops at the reception desk, marble and wood paneling throughout, video games in the waiting room for the kids...the works. It must have cost a fortune!

I have never had so many cavities in my life....I even needed my first root canal (at age 57) recently. I wonder if it's a coincidence? LOL

Default Dentist/Doctors Waiting Time

I stopped going to my doctor (after waiting 1-1/2 hours) and dentist after waiting 1 hour for an appointment I had for three months. I have since found an excellent medical group (Summit Medical Group) and fantastic dentist. I have never waited more than 20 minutes.

A lot of doctors and dentists over booked because they have such high premiums on malpractice insurance. My time is just as important as their time. I feel sorry for the elderly who are made to wait and wait and dependent on others for driving.

Well, we went to the other dentist today, and my son was called back before I could even get the new patient paperwork filled out. The dentist was pretty awesome (and, incidentally, strongly resembles Rush Limbaugh! ). I marvel at how he can chat on and on for hours... think about that... all day, every day, chatting at people who can't reply because your hands are in their mouths. Probably telling the same stories over and over too.

So overall it was good. I'm glad we didn't put up with the other place. They ended up doing a lot of work today and we were there for hours but not just idly waiting... nothing fancy about the waiting room (quite the contrary), but roomy and prompt so I'm happy enough for now.

Actually a very good thread. It is the norm(well maybe not the super crappy waiting room or Jerry Springer)......can't count how many times i was made to wait and wait and wait. Even when there was no one in front of me.....Even when i booked the first or last appointment of the day,LOL.
My dentist is great and i'm keeping her! My gp doc, my mechanic, eye doctor, specialists are all on thin ice!

People who know how to treat other people respectfully get my business again.........perhaps they overbook, perhaps they Really are Busy or perhaps they have a "god complex".........whatever their issues?!........i am tired of WAITING!.......if i wanted to listen to my toenails grow, read magazines older than me and watch braindead shows i can stay home. Keep looking for the Good Ones..........and attention to detail counts.

My dentist is close to work, and he's a very good planner/scheduler. In 15 years I doubt I have waited 30 minutes total.

My dentist's waiting room has very comfy chairs, like we have at home. Plus they recently put in a big wide screen high definition TV that plays movies, good one's too while we wait. They could improve the magazine section, but with the movies, who really cares?
They also have lots of toothpaste and mouthwash in both the bathrooms which comes in handy right before we go in.
The very first time I went there, I waited 5 minutes to be seen after I finished the paperwork.

I've never waited more than 5 to 10 minutes for an appointment at my dentist. Good (current!) reading material in the waiting room, no TV, which is fine by me as I despise television, and if I need work other than cleaning done, I can listen to classical music on headphones with my eyes closed while he drills away. I'm happy with him and his office.

Interesting side note on waiting for medical/dental professionals: a year or so ago, I was referred to a general surgeon for some repair work. On my initial visit to his office, I arrived 15 minutes early to allow time to do the paperwork, and when I checked in, the receptionist told me that the surgeon had been called to an emergency in the hospital across the street, that it would be probably an hour's wait, and asked if I wanted to reschedule. As I had set the appointment for a day that I had off from work anyway, I declined with thanks, found a magazine, and settled down to wait.

Every fifteen minutes from that point on, the receptionist came out to the waiting room and made the circuit of every patient waiting for that particular surgeon to provide updates on his ETA and to find out if they were still willing to wait, or if they'd prefer a different appointment time. When the doc finally returned from the ER and I eventually got in to see him, you would never have thought by his manner that he was an hour and a half behind schedule; he took as much time as I needed to ask questions and go over treatment options and plans, and never made me feel rushed.

The biggest shock of all came after the doc had left the examining room. His nurse came in to schedule the surgery with me, bringing with her a large portable expanding file. After taking care of the scheduling details, she picked up the file and said, "now, you had a long wait to see the doctor today, much longer than we would have liked, and we'd like to compensate you in some way. Would you prefer a $10 gas card, a free pass to the local movie theater, a free game at the bowling alley, or one of these other options?"

You could have knocked me over with a feather. A doctor's office who actually appreciates the value of the PATIENT'S time???? Unbelievable.

By the way, the surgery was a complete success. Turns out he's not only a nice guy but also a top-notch surgeon. Talk about a win-win situation!
