In my line of work at Lowe's Home Improvement we're "damned if you do; damned if you don't." In the past I've said "Have a nice holiday" only to be met with resentment from right-wingers going "which holiday" and getting peeved with my rebuttal of "whichever one you happen to be celebrating." Then when I say "Merry Christmas" I once had a woman reply "I'm Jewish." I said "Happy Chanukkah," to which she replied "That's better." What the f*$^# are we SUPPOSED to say?

the other day when i checked out at walmart, the clerk handed me my bag, gave me a big smile and said, "merry christmas." i was jarred to hear it!! lol! and i thought how nice it was to have such a pleasant clerk. and i cheerily replied, "merry christmas to you too." now if she had said, "happy chanukkah," i would have replied, "happy chanukkah to you too!" to me, it's just about wishing someone well for the holiday.

I'll have to remember to send The American Family Association a "Happy Holidays" card.

We have seven Costcos in Atlanta. The one just North of where I live is one of the busiest Costco stores in the U.S. On any given day, just by eye-balling it, I'd say less than one-third of the customers in there are what you'd peg as "American Christians" - so exactly WHY would you NOT try to include all of your customers during the season by simplifying it and using the word "Holiday" instead of "Christmas"? It has nothing to do with insulting Christians - it has to do with respect, in that you are acknowledging not everyone is a Christian, and many of those people shop at your stores.

"Happy Holidays" includes everyone - what's The American Family Association's problem with including everyone as opposed to EXCLUDING all but one group of people? Duh.

I'm going to spend extra money at Costco this weekend just because of that article. I need 250 rolls of toilet paper I'm sure.

Persoanlly ;I see it as a few extreme anti-christians stirring things up;because it was never a problem until they brought the issue up. As far as hering Merry Christmas before the actual date ;Bah Hum Bug(JK).
