The pizza delivery tip thread brought this topic to mind. What do guys typically tip for a haircut?

My cut is usually 16 bucks, so I just give the girl a 20 and tell her to keep the change. Mainly for convenience purposes. Is this too much? Too little?

My cut is a simple fade from a 2 to a 6/7....basically all clippers.
But the guy goes around with scissors and wipes my face often to get rid of pesky hairs around my eyes. Wipes my forehead and blow dries it when I sweat. Powders me up, cleans as low as he can get on my upper back...offers to trim the eyebrows. Takes him about 50 mins for $13 cut in a BUSY shop...sometimes 5 ppl waiting for him. Never rushes me. I give him a $3 tip always. I've noticed he spends the same time and care on everyone, but that they usually tip $2,...because it makes it $15 and they keep a $5 on the $20. I feel he deserves the extra $1 because I've never had a barber show so much patience and care. No more do I go home and say "I could have done better", or "he missed this spot." NEVER.

Sucks because due to the economy I have stopped going since mid-October and started using my old clippers again and doing it myself. He was really my only expense that was a luxury more than something I kinda needed. I can do almostas good as a job as he does...and for free with my $15 clippers I've had for a few years.

This coming from the guy who gets hated on in the "waiting" topics or other "30% mandatory tip" threads. I tip my barber 23% and he deserves every bit. If I made more...I'd probably give him $7.

Hairdresser tips are usually about 10% of the cost. Shampoo girls/guys, about $2-3

You are effectively giving 25%...that is generous.

My haircut is $38. I give her $45, or about 18.5%, but that's just so I could round numbers up.

Why should barbers and haircutters get a tip? They already make plenty for what they do.

I quit going to the barber when the price of a haircut went from $1.50 to $1.75.
I refused to pay that ridiculous price for what I could do myself in ten minutes.

I tip my hairstylist 25% because she really listens to me and takes her time with my hair. I really appreciate that. I have long hair that is layered and I get very nervous about anyone touching my hair. I had a botched job 2 years ago that I'm still trying to grow out.

I go to Supercuts about once every two or three months - - and every time I go I give the barber a $4 tip for a $15 haircut. I figure that's fair...I didn't leave bald...

I just give my barber 20 dollars and call it a day. The cut is $15 and tell him to keep the change. I do it everytime that he doesn't even reach to give me the change for the bill anymore because he knows I will tell him to keep the change. But it's worth it because he does a great job.
