Oh....I like so many of these ideas. I always have a hard time buying for my parents since they already have so much stuff.

Couples who manage to reach anniversaries in the high digits are rare these days, so if your parents have managed it they definitely deserve to be congratulated by their family members, but as the person said above the big gifts should really be left to them to buy for each other as it is their own private achievement after all. Personalized sentimental gifts work well for parents, the best gift idea I have found so far was a handmade gift called Pages from the Heart gift books originally a real hard back book lacquered and stiffened so only two pages are visible .These are custom made gifts created with the input of the gift giver ,on one side I had some of mom and dads favorite sayings printed eg. one of Dads faves is never go to bed with a quarrel.,and a few lines from moms fave love song ,on the other half a collage of pictures of them through the years all is decorated with various hand cut paper decorations its a very eye catching piece very unique and both of them loved it .

I too find it extremely hard to buy anniversary gifts for parents these days, especially when it comes to special occasions, such as 25th, 30th, 35th or sometimes, the rare 50th anniversary, which was my case.

My best luck so far came from the unusual idea of turning old wedding photos into artworks - portraits made from precious gemstones. I ordered one few weeks ago from the site dantegems.com for my parent's 50th celebration and it was a big hit. Its true that the harder it gets to buy presents for someone, the more sentimental value is appreciated. Give them something they can cherish for life and can't forget, and you'll please both.
