My girlfriend and I planned to get a couple's massage today.
We were on our way to the place and when my girlfriend realized the place we were going to was primarily a residence, she wanted to cancel the massage. She wanted to go to a "professional" place [as if someone's residence can't be "professional"...]
I had already told her that the massage would be held at the massage therapist's home but she claimed I didn't tell her that.

I called the woman a few minutes before our massage and left her a message saying we'd have to cancel.
She called back saying that she would have to charge us half price (75 dollars) or she would send us a gift certificate in the mail AFTER we mailed her the payment for the massage.
Apparently another massage therapist had to drive an hour just to make our appointment (this made my girlfriend feel bad) so that's why she had to charge us half price, PLUS her cancellation policy is that you cancel at least 24 hours ahead of time. We started to make the appointment but we were already 10 minutes late and the woman said there was another appointment after us.

The woman doesn't have any real information except my name and my phone number. I told my girlfriend we should just pay the 75 dollars since I don't feel like driving an hour just to get a massage that we can get in town. My girlfriend doesn't want to pay since the woman doesn't have any of our financial information (debit/credit card #). I don't want the woman calling my phone and harassing me over money.

If you were in this situation, would you pay the money?

Pay it. As a note, some jurisdictions allow therapeutic massage services as a home occupation in residential zones.

Don't pay it yourself.

Have you considered getting a new girlfriend? If what you describe is correct, she either doesn't listen to you or lies to your face, makes snap judgments at the last minute, and wants to leave others on the hook for her shortcomings. Make your girlfriend pay. Tell her I said so. She needs to grow up.

Ideally, your girlfriend should pay, but if she doesn't then you need to pay. It is really an inconvenience for people in these professions to have cancellations. That's how they make their money, and when you cancel on them - especially last minute - that eats into their ability to pay their bills, and probably screws up their day.

My nail lady complains about people not showing up for their appointments or cancelling at the last minute because had she known, she could have done other things with her time. It's just not fair.

My son is in the same situation - he's a personal trainer. If someone calls him at the last minute or just doesn't show up, he wasted gasoline and his time getting to the gym.

She had you on her schedule where she could have earned money from another client who would have showed up. I would recommend paying her.

We're paying. I'm splitting the cost with my gf.
Thanks for the advice.
I was always FOR paying but she didn't want to.
