It helps if you don't give a damn what other people think of you, or your purchases. However, if they are crowding your personal space, or actually touching you in some way, accidentally stepping backward on their toes works wonders.

Yea, you don't want to mess with me in public. I'm big. People give me lots of space. And I can be heard across the whole store if I have something to say.

People don't bother me much. But I am a pussycat inside. ;-)

There are more pressing issues than this to get annoyed about. I can't waste my energy fretting over what someone thinks about the items in my grocery cart.

Yum sweet potato french fries, maybe I'll get those the next time I am here. Wow, frozen Naan, that sounds perfect, you can just take out what you need and heat it up, only Trader Joes would have something like that!"
Bingo!

I could care less what those behind me do.
It's the ones in front of me that annoy me.

Until you have paid for the items, they are still the property of the store, thus you are also free to browse through the store merchandise in their basket.

Ever seen something in the basket of the person ahead of you, and it reminded you of something you forgot? I have.

I agree. Maybe they are just curious to see what is on sale.
