(Okay, so the some people I am referring to are relatives of mine in another state...but it's something I have noticed other people doing as well...)

Just curious why people like to stick that possessive 's on the end of the term WalMart, and if those same people do it to other chains that don't end in an "s", such as calling Subway.. Subway's, or Target.. Target's (etc), or if it's just limited to WM.. ? I can understand if they are talking about a number of stores (ie- there are a lot of WalMarts in this area...), but not really when talking about one store ("oh, did you get that at the WalMart's over on High Street?").

(yeah, I know, not an hot topic... just wondering if it's a regional or personal thing...)

It could be because stores used to be based on someone's name, like Long's Drug or Smith's General Store or whatever.

It's like when people say real-a-tor instead of realtor. There's no "a" between real and tor.

This drives me nuts too.....not a hard task mind you...but it's not just WalMart, I've heard it with K-mart too.

It bugs me. Especially when people say realator instead of realtor.

It would bug you if I called you North Beach Persons. You would say "Just one person - not a crowd."
