I live in a city where there are lots of homeless people. It is a safe winter haven for many. I buy cheap cigarettes and bag them in groups of 5 in zip lock baggies with a $1 bill for coffee to give out since they are all around the downtown area where I work in the early morning. Never thought about their germs....only the disparity of their hearts.
They look for my car....and I feel blessed to help.
I cannot believe the nerve of the OP here. Do you know how many people handle money on a day to day basis, how much the money is exchanged?
A person sneezes and covers their mouth with their hand then reaches in the pocket for money.
Or they touch the cart with the same hand.
Good grief. They are people too. I hate touching money of any kind from any body. I do not complain about it, I just wash my hands after touching it. Same with touching things around and about in public.
I do not go bowling because there is no way I am sticking my fingers in a ball where other people have done the same.
Who knows where these peoples hands have been?>!? Up their nose, down their pants, down someone elses pants...
You are worried about being in the presence of a homeless person?
I bet one of these said people could teach you a thing or two about life.
I am sorry, but I cannot say you are a good person after this....
LOL. I wonder what people like this think of me when I do not give a crap and just want a cup of coffee after I have been working in the garden with my stained t shirt and dirty ball cap. Shorts with dirt on them where I have wiped my hands and sat down in the dirt.
The dirt on my face where I have wiped my brow.
Go up to the hardware store looking like that and everyone is just as nice to me as they normally all. Small town and all, every one knows everyone.
So I go to the coffee house and have a seat.
Wow. I was going past the community outreach the other day and it came across my mind that maybe I need to go in and see about volunteering to help people just like OP is talking about.
It is weighing even stronger on my mind now, after having read this thread.
I am actually going down on Monday and asking how I can help. Will I shake the hand of one of the homeless there? Absolutely.
When I was homeless, I have gone into Wal-Mart to clean up a bit, use some deodorant, whatever. I was holding down a full-time job, and no one ever complained that I smelled funny.
Would it burst your bubble to know that the 2 STD's I caught in my life (gonarreah/pubic lice) were from quite wealthy men making more than 90 grand a year?
I really hate it when I'm in a store where there's one register open, and there's a homeless person in line ahead of me. What if I receive change, and some of it is from the money the homeless person used to pay. How exactly do I handle that? Do I need to take a can of disinfectant with me in order to sanitize some of the money I'm handed back? What happened to the days when homeless people weren't allowed to enter stores?
Can't believe in this day and age that someone would say such a mean thing like you just said
Downright MEAN and NERVY to even post something like that.
