I really hate it when I'm in a store where there's one register open, and there's a homeless person in line ahead of me. What if I receive change, and some of it is from the money the homeless person used to pay. How exactly do I handle that? Do I need to take a can of disinfectant with me in order to sanitize some of the money I'm handed back? What happened to the days when homeless people weren't allowed to enter stores?

Besides, most supermarkets have a canister of disinfectant wipes right by the entrance doors...for homeless & non, and anyone wanting to use them, without prequalifying if one is worthy! Geez.

While not liking the lack of sanitary observances evidenced by the homeless, I can't say that I would panic about contracting a disease from the change given by a homeless person shopping in front of me.
There are many people who are not homeless who are only slightly more hygenic (Guys, WASH YOUR HANDS after you p1ss!!!!!) and worrying about the one homless guy in front of you is a bit silly.
The only time i get angry is when that homless guy in front of me is at the liquor stor buying a cheap 5th of something. But that anger is not from the possibility of getting his change, but of the definite destruction of his life though that purchase.
I am trying to figure out what OP objects to most? what is on those coins/bills that the homeless touched that is not on other items? EGADS? That homeless money was touched by the cashier who has now touched/scanned the OP's products? Do you fumigate your food now? How DARE they allow a homeless person in the store to fondle and infest the store - the floor, shopping carts, displays, food, and even the air with their homeless breath!
You should really carry a plastic baggie and have people put your change into it rather than risk touching. And allow the cashier to infect him/herself by reaching into the bag and taking out what is needed. Make sure you wash all money at home - throw away your current wallet, order a new one online.
I suggest, OP, that you simply boycott every store, every place of business, and of course, public benches where it is possible a homeless person has touched. I am absolutely certain your business will not be missed and be very careful about touching currency of any kind, it just might have been handled by an undesirable at some point.
Wow. I'm not aware of any store with a large homeless customer base. Where do you shop? I have made purchases after people with questionable character or straight up dirty people. Neither necessarily indicates that the person is homeless.
The only place you can control who you'll encounter is in your home. Anytime that you are in public, you take the chance of encountering people that don't have the same morals or standards as you do.

Personally, I would rather stand in line and interact with a homeless person anyday before doing so with a smug, arrogant individual such as yourself.
To be honest, ANY person these days could be homeless. Ever hear of the "invisible" homeless? It could be a single mother, the man in the business suit or the server taking your order in a restaurant. In fact, it could be anyone of us. In reality, there is no stereotypical "look" that embodies the homeless condition given the face and condition of the current economy.
Put yourself in the shoes of the homeless, then let's see how YOU would feel if you were subjected to such dehumanizing and degrading treatment.
