1. Much better customer svc, they greet you at the door and ask what you're looking for. Lowe's seem to be understaffed in quantity and quality.
2. More spacious and cleanly laid out.
3. Lowe's has that deplorable ad campaign saying they are cheaper than the competition (ie. Home Depot), when everything I've compared has been identically priced at both!
In fact I drive an extra few miles to go to Home Depot.
I like the fact that the Home Depot near me has self-checkout, while Lowes does not. Neither of them seem to staff their check-out lanes very well. At least with the self-checkout lanes at Home Depot I'm not stuck standing in the only-open line with 8 other people waiting to check out behind that one old lady who still writes checks for everything, treats every one as if it were a penmanship exam, records every full detail about the check in her check register, and then seems to not realize that she's going to have to produce her drivers license until she's asked for it and takes 3 minutes to dig it out, but only after she carefully re-stows her pen, fastens the clasp on her checkbook, places it back into its own special little place in her purse, and then removes the other wallet thingee that actually has her license in it .... Ahhh, thank God for self-checkout lanes.
I'm lucky to have both nearby. I picked Lowes because their staff seems to be more friendly and able to answer my questions better. I've had people at my local Home Depot avoid eye contact and turn in another direction. I buy at whichever one has the best price and quality for what I need.
I like Home Depots paint too.........
But, I must say Lowes had the greatest Christmas displays yesterday. The scene houses were awesome......
The prices though were way high, more then I ever spent for a scene home. I thought they were a bit overpriced so I just didn't purchase. I'm sure they will go on sale soon.
The Lowes and Home Depot people were "way too" helpful yesterday. Looking down the aisle for my hubby, I had about ten people come ask me if I needed help.........."Nope, just lookin' for hubby"
I'm sure they are told to do it. But, I couldn't look sideways without someone asking " if I needed help."
I prefer Lowe's. While their prices are slightly higher than HD, the overall quality seems better.
I never can find a relatively knowledgeable customer service person at HD, but can at Lowe's.
It also seems to me that HD has a more cheesy feel to it as compared to Lowe's but maybe that's just in my area. While the 2 stores are not on top of each other, they are about a mile away so they are close.
Here in the DC area, I prefer Lowe's for their vastly superior customer service (ie, the help speaks English), but they are few and far between....HD's are everywhere.
So I usually go to HD, where 90% of the time they have a fork lift parked smack in front of what I need...so I have to go looking for somebody to move it. Or the aisle is closed altogether...
However for paint....it's always HD, I like the Behr line.
Yep Home depot can be a mess and their items poorly dsiplayed.Since they cazay so many different brands I shp each but Lowes is much more oragnized it seems to me. They have less peoplebut they know more and as said speak engish.
