Moving to Shreveport/Bossier City Area (Red Chute, Eastwood: rental homes, low crime, house)

HI! My family and I are being transferred to that area MARCH 1ST and we still have yet to find a place to live. We are unsure of which area to stay in. Shreveport or Bossier City? My husband is going to be working on Barksdale afb so we would like to stay somewhere close to there if possible. Any suggestions? We are looking for a house (3bds) to rent (w/ fenced in yard if possible because we have a dog, and a cat but cat is a inside cat --declawed and fixed--both pets well trained and house broken). We also have a 4yr old son, so it needs to be in a safe neighborhood!!!! PLEASE HELP!!! TIME RUNNING OUT!!!

Did you find a decent place to rent? We're moving there next month from California and need to find a house to rent fast!!! We've never been out there before. Any recommendations for rental homes (management companies) would be appreciated!

North Bossier, south Bossier, and SE Shreveport are your best bets. South Bossier is more accessible to BAFB than the other two. However, you can do pretty good time wise getting to the base from SE Shreveport. These 3 areas also have the best school districts if you need to know that.

Another area I would recommend would be Stockwell Place and Dogwood (which is actually a Haughton mailing address). They are still relatively accessible from the base although a little farther.

Bossier City has a relatively low crime rate and SE Shreveport is not bad either. DM me and I can provide you with some realtors who have rentals.

I haven't gotten an offer but have put in for a job at BAFB. On the map, it looks as if Haughton isn't too far away. Would it be reasonable to expect a commute of less than 1/2 hour from Haughton if we were living in one of the newer developments?

Haughton (Red Chute-Eastwood area) is just the right distance from the city, the lakes, BAFB, etc. Your commute would likely only be about 20 minutes during the peak period, maybe less if you lived closer in. Have your realtor look in, or you guys look in the subdivisions of "Dogwood", "Dogwood South", "Sterling Ranch", "Stockwell", "Stonebridge", "Country Place", "Tall Timbers", "Forest Hills", "Crestwood", and along Bellevue Road. These are either new and/or well-taken care of neighborhoods.

Bossier City north is also a great place to look for a residence. Look in the area of "Greenacres", "Lakewood", "Palmetto", etc...

Benton is a little further to the north but it too is just the right distance from the city, the lakes, etc.

I basically grew up in S-BC (between Haughton & Bossier City) but I don't live there anymore and I've lived in several other major US cities since the early 1990's. I am today an urban planner specialized in regional/land use/transportation planning. I still visit S-BC every couple of years and it has changed quite a bit since the 1980's, but S-BC is still today not a very rapidly-growing area. In some ways that is a good thing. For the most part, while the movie/entertainment industry has provided positive economic impact in the last 8 years (?), the casinos seem to have been the biggest economic boom for the area over the last 15 years. While it seems there is a bunch of growth, in reality the population and development patterns have simply shifted within the area.

Overall, I remember S-BC to be fairly decent place to live and raise kids.
