U.S. Highway 171 is now completely finished.

Over 20 years ago, the state decided to four-lane the entire stretch of the highway from Lake Charles to Shreveport. Hopefully this will spur more economic development in both of those cities, as well as in the rest of Western Louisiana. I'm not sure if the commute time has been increased, but I would think so since I've driven on some it, and it's basically like an interstate but without the exits etc.

I drove from Many to Shreveport which is 80 miles, after visiting in Texas last monday. Indeed, what a pleasure. 4 lanes and all those hairpin turns in Zwolle and Mansfiled are gone. Really is a nice highway. Be looking forward to driving to Lake Charles somefday

Glad to hear it was a good drive.

This will also tremendously help with hurricane evacuations for Lake Charles.

It's good that's finally done. I remember seeing it under construction while on a trip to Lake Charles years and years ago. Maybe next time I stop by I'll take the highway down to Lake Charles again for a fishing trip
