6 Teens drowned in Shreveport in the Red yesterday. None could swim. Just off the bank. Dangerous undertow and variable depths. Snakes and gators around too. Stay with pools.

Oh, this story is front page news everywhere. How horribly tragic. Never underestimate the danger of rivers. Prayers for all the families.

Nice of both of you to comment. Really grieving parents right now and six youth no longer with us. I hope that it will influence mor e people to give their kids swimming lessons and to stay out of rivers too dangerous for swimming.

A long time ago when I was about 16, some friends (both boys and girls) used to swim out there. Although the water was very very shallow where we went, we still could have gotten in trouble. To top it off, we were suitless (yes skinnydippin'). I don't know what ever possessed us

Rivers as large as the Red are dangerous for even the best of swimmers. It is foolish for anyone who can't swim to be around the river without a life jacket.
