I've read all the bad stuff about the Shreveport area, but I would like to know... What is good about the area? What do you like about where you live? What do you do on a typical Saturday, Sunday, or a day off?

I no longer live in Shreveport (left 7 years ago). The good is that I was able to go to college for free, through the TOPS program. I went to LSU Shreveport, not a known school, but it did benefit me in the long run.

My husband is from the area and we visit a lot. We have kids, so our priorities revolve around them. We like going to Sci-port and some of the local parks. The riverfront water squirters are fun, when we remember to have a change of clothes in the trunk
They have all the usual things like the stadium movie theaters and bowling alleys. We have watched college football games at the big stadium. There is also a big outdoor mall in Bossier right along the riverfront that is fun to walk through. Let's see....my husband likes to run so we have done a few 5K's and 10K's in the area, which are a lot of fun. We also hit up the snowball stands in the summer to cool down in the high temps! Hope this helps.

yes, I'm so happy to hear something good. What is a snowball stand? One thing I won't miss about where I live now is 4 ft of snow to shovel off of my driveway!

Ooooo! You are in for a treat! A sno-ball is a cup of finely shaved ice (so that it is soft). You can choose a flavored syrup- some stands have 100 flavors or more. My personal favorites are the cream flavors like creme de menthe and nectar. mmm. Then you can get other toppings such as condensed milk or whip cream. Then there are "stuffed" sno-balls, if the plain sno-ball didn't put you in a diabetic coma. These are a regular sno-ball with ice cream filling down the center. Let me just say that sno-balls are pretty exclusive to Louisiana. I have been to a couple of stands in MS and AL that were complete imposters. None in GA that I have seen. So we make sure to get one or two when we travel back to LA.

I have to admit there is nothing more beautiful than huge white snowflakes softly falling. After a snow storm, I love to go outside because it is so quiet. The blanket of snow must muffle sound. And then at night, the snow sparkles when light hits it. That is the only part of snow I'll miss ( since I don't sled ride anymore!) We call those sno- balls...snow cones, but don't have them with ice cream, that sounds yummy!

Well, what I can tell you is that Shreveport can be very fun, It can also be very boring. When Mardi Gras comes in the spring it gets very fun. All I can say is don't move to the Jewella area! That's the hood!

They have all the usual things like the stadium movie theaters and bowling alleys. We have watched college football games at the big stadium. There is also a big outdoor mall in Bossier right along the riverfront that is fun to walk through. Let's see....my husband likes to run so we have done a few 5K's and 10K's in the area, which are a lot of fun. We also hit up the snowball stands in the summer to cool down in the high temps!
