We are going to move to Shreveport in Summer. I have a daughter who is going to be 4th grader in fall. I heard that the magnet schools are very good, but I am not sure which one is the best in terms of academic strength. Also is it true that if we don't live in the same area as the school locates, my daughter has to take a test? Any information regarding elementary schools will be very appreciated.

Try South Highlands magnet. I know of children who attended and the enriched programs are marvelous. I would just contact the Caddo Parish (that's county elsewhere) School Board Office and get the right information.

If you live in Caddo Parish, I also recommend South Highlands Magnet for K-5.

My daughter has been in the Magnet system since kindergarten and is now finishing up her Jr year at Caddo Magnet HS. It has been a great education for her.

Caddo Magnet is by far the best school in the area, but you have to be a resident of Caddo Parish to attend.

The only problem with the magnet program is that you must live in Caddo Parish to be a part of it. If you guys would like to be somewhat close to the Base, you could look around the South Bossier area, like Savannah Place, which is a community where there tends to be a lot of military families moving too, and your daughter would go to Curtis Elementary, Bossier City Schools - Bossier City Louisiana School Ratings - Public and Private. The crime rate of Caddo Parish is a lot higher than Bossier, which I would imagine is fairly important in the event you or your spouse gets deployed. Lastly, property taxes are high in Caddo Parish in comparison to Bossier. So, if you guys are still in the search mode for a home, I would definitly suggest looking into Bossier. You can even go to www.mysouthernhomebuilder.com, and see what Savannah Place is all about. I have several friends who live there, had their homes built there, and swear by it.

I'd say Gardens of South Gate is much better than Savannah Place and the variety of builders in there makes it easier (and cheaper) to get 'extras.' But that being said, east Shv is in Caddo Parish and it's only 10-15 min from BAFB, so I can't see that being a problem.
