Best school system in N Louisiana is the Caddo Magnet School system. You will have to live in Shreveport to be eligible though. Good neighborhoods are available.

If you are going to Barksdale, Elm Grove Middle School has an amazing band program that graduates into Parkway High School, who is finishing their 2nd year inside their beautiful new building. Elm Grove is only a mile and a half from the base and Parkway is about 5 miles. As far as rent is concerned, I would get online and search for rentals and compare the pricing versus buying because rent around here is insanely high. You can even go to youtube and just search for something like "homes for sale in Bossier City" and see what kinds of homes pop up around the base. I have a lot of military friends that live in a community called Savannah Place, and seem to really enjoy it.

Default magnet schools

The magnet schools are being abandoned over the next few years. So pick a neighborhood with good schools.

Default North Bossier, hands down!

Best elementary, hands down, is Stockwell Place in N. Bossier. Kids went there for 5 years....Robotics, Destination Imagination, Choir, 4-H, Checkers Club, stellar academics! Feeds into Cope Middle, which my older boys went to all 3 years. Band is the BEST! Band leader is the BEST! Award winning, highest percentage of kids in the All District Honor Band 2 years running. Again, stellar academics and Honors program. Principals are fabulous at both schools. Feeds into Airline High, which I've only heard good things about from friends. Great band program! My 2nd choice would be WT Lewis Elem. in N. Bossier....Elm Grove MS in S. Bossier and Parkway HS in S. Bossier....both very close to base.
