DALLAS, TX (KLTV) - DART officials and representatives of the North East Regional Mobility Authority will meet Friday, May 27 at 10:00 am until 10:30 am at Union Station in 400 South Houston in Dallas to sign an agreement to explore rail connections between North and East Texas.
The agreement recognizes the importance of coordinated transportation planning as the two agencies work to expand rail in the area.
The agreement encourages the two agencies to identify "potential issues of mutual interest in the development of plans" for future rail service between the North Central, North East and East regions of Texas.
This is the first step to bringing passenger rail, not high speed trains, to East Texas and eventually expanding to Shreveport.
East Texas officials look to expand rail - KLTV 7 News Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville |

I know this story mostly relates to the people living in East Texas but I want to hear from people living in Shreveport & Northern Louisiana if Dart were to expand to Shreveport would this be a good idea or not?

I would say yes, I'm not from Shreveport but it sounds like it might be a factor in pushing the city forward. I'm sure the casinos would love it, only if they keep gambling illegal in Texas.

I think it would be a good idea although I don't know about how others feel. I know many would like to have an alternative to driving. Maybe some other posters will chime in. What few we seem to have on SBC.

Wonder how long it would take to reach DFW and Tyler. I just can't imagine lil ol Shreveport getting commuter rail.

Shreveport is about 2.5 hours from Dallas. Rail would be a great asset for this area. If you look at the history of Nashville and when it became the thriving city that it is now, it was when 3 interstates intersected there. SBC has I-20 already, and I-49 is expanding every day. There is also I-69 that is in the works, and according to a friend of mine who is charge of getting the rest of the funding for I-49, when these 3 interstates are combined here, we will have 1 day shipping to anywhere in the country from Shreveport. So having communter rail here will only help. I can also forsee at some point our air port becoming larger as well. The main complaint from the movie industry is that it is so difficult to get here by plane. So, in my opinion, SBC is getting the foundation laid for amazing growth in the future.

I-49 needs to be connected all the way to New Orleans and (Kansas City?)

The airport would have to expand but would be difficult between Dallas and Atlanta airports, right? Shreveport has a great foundation and looks to be only preparing itself for rightful big city for the Tex-Ark-La area.
