It's been a few years since I went to the La. State Fair in Shreveport. Last time I went it was probably 6 years or so and I didn't think much of it then. As far as state fairs go, I've felt the La. State Fair was lacking as far as commercial exhibits were concerned. Now I have to say that I've been to state fairs in other states that do more than livestock, carnival rides, freak sideshows and cookware demonstrations. Other state and even larger county fairs seem to have more on the ball with better commercial exhibitors.

Anyone been to this year's state fair yet? Be interested to read your observations. My take is based on what I've said in other threads on this forum regarding Shreveport's demographics and per-capita spending power (or lack thereof). Just doesn't seem to attract the heavy commercial promotional type of exhibitors I've seen at other similar types of venues.

Not knocking it but just an observation. The La. State Fair seems to always be a repeat of itself year in and out. (I do find the racing pigs and ducks fun to watch however!)

I go for the carnival foods and the carnival foods only. Otherwise, I couldn't give two ****s. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the duck races or Dallas the Fire Guy.

It used to be much more fun when they actually brought well-known bands. Jimmy Buffett himself even said, at the groundbreaking for Margaritaville, that some of his first gigs were at the State Fair in Shreveport.
