When will Shreveport's population increase? I would think that it would be at least 300K by now.

300K would be impressive as it would have easily passed BR and much closer to New Orleans. How long has the city's population been at a standstill?

Look to the west of it for a bit and ask this again.

I like to think Shreveport could've taken Dallas' place as a transportation hub and be the size of Dallas. Imagine SBC being a household name versus DFW.

Two words stand in the way of this. 1) OIL 2) TEXAS

Most people should realize that living in the shadow of Texas isn't easy. Shreveport "sees" what goes on in Texas and sometimes forgets they are in La and not Texas for all legal purposes. Shreveport has often been criticized by other La citizens for not being "Louisiana enough". Truth is, it is very much La. When I go to Texas just crossing the border I see differences such as cleaner roads, more maintenance on the roads and more businesses; less pine acreage although Texas has plenty of pine trees they don't have so many "pine planters" (who hoard all the acreage which could be developed into businesses) for planting and harvesting pines.

shreveport loss most of its manufacturing base in the 80s and the 90s. Thousands of jobs are gone out of here. When the oil bidness tanked in the 80s, again thousands of jobs left once again. What you have had here ever since is a classic rust belt city right here in La. It is just starting to boom again after all these years. For how long is anybody's guess. I hope it will continue.

You're a troll, imaterry78259, and I'm surprised you're still around here.

Let's just say you and I go way back on internet forums, and while your reputation as an anti-Shreveport forum troll may not be known to many, I haven't forgotten after all these years.

I'm not a troll but would love to see hear what is going on in the area beside casinos.
