FWIW, it's official - - - after 30 years of operation, Shreveport's General Motors Plant --- one of GM's newest and most modern --- is closed seeking a buyer.

Yes, what a shame. My neighbors both worked there and had to move to Arlington to finish up their careers. As soon as they retire, they will return to here in a year or two. Don't like Arlington or Dallas.

I know some folks who've taken job-offers elsewhere too. They tried to stay here but financially it didn't make sense.
There's just not a large manufacturing base here to accept those with the GM skills to get paid anywhere close to what they were making, so they opted for the pay-out and moved to Lewisville, TX and so far they like it.

I just wonder how many workers were there at GM when it shut down last week? I thought many had taken retirement.
