Winnfield is the birthplace of Huey P. and brother Earl Long and O.K. Allen; all three became governors of La. It is a small town and I'm guessing it has a population of maybe 5,000 to 7,000. I've been there quite a few times but really can't say much more than what I've already stated. Like most of La., very conservative.
It's under a 2-hour drive to Shreveport-Bossier if you take Hwy 84 to Hwy 71N. Major employer in Winn parish is the School Board, Hospitals, Williamette Industry (timber) & City of Winnfield. Not a lot going on there other than timber, Wal-Mart, typical chain fast-food, some local restaurants. If small-town living is for you, then Winnfield definitely has that.
