Thanks to Katrina, in 2005 NW La. was the beneficiary of Hollywood Studios scrambling to finish films that started in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, etc. as the State Film Tax Incentives required films that begun in 2005 to finish their contractual obligations with the tax program to complete production the same year. So back in 2005, Shreveport-Bossier and other places in NW La. had a huge boom in TV/Film Production. The trend continued for awhile until in the past 2 to 3 yrs, more films headed south to NOLA, BR areas.

Some say it's because Shreveport-Bossier just doesn't have the support structure necessary to facilitate film/tv production on that scale again. That and the fact that there are no direct flights from SHV regional airport to NYC or L.A. and the airfare costs with a stop in DFW, IAH or DEN still are considerable WHEN you can land a seat...thanks to flight shortages. Others contend that Shreveport-Bossier just doesn't have enough higher-end social / hospitality amenities to appeal to the Hollywood crowd. In fact when they were in town, they had their share of logistics issues in getting here, finding decent hotels and other venues to suit their needs.

Whether we like it or not, Shreveport-Bossier may be heaven to some...it is sorely lacking in many things to support the volume of productions that are attracted to the state. Just remember Brad and Angelina live in NOLA..not Bossier.

I think that Shreveport could do better in the support department as usual. Synergy is lacking in this city on a serious level. The laid back Shreveport attitude won't cut it for developing new business and industry. I must say Arlena Acree is doing a good job and we need a dozen more of her. Good ol' boys just don't get (the right) things done.
