The spirit of the post, is that I"m interested in your state of Louisana! But, haven't been to those two cities, but I'm curious how they might be similar or different...

So, is Shreveport similar to Baton Rouge? Or completely different kind of city? If its similar, how so? If different, how so?

Being that Shreveport is so close to Oklahoma/Texas/Arkansas with a Louisiana twist, is there an element added to the city because of their proximities? and if so, how?

I haven't been to Shreveport in years but the first thing I noticed was, the Cowboys store in Bossier City. Like WTF!
There's more Saints fans now of course.
Second the food is worse, smaller, more conservative, and stagnant.
It's considered Texas by many of us along I-10.

Jokes aside, it's Louisiana but nothing like the quintessential Louisiana of swamps, gumbo, crawfish boils, Who Dats, LSU fans, funny accents, airboats, hurricane parties, etc.

Shreveport-Bossier is more East Texas-like. It's nothing like South La. Sure they celebrate Mardi Gras and there are a handful of places that serve decent Gumbo, etc. but no where near the number of restaurants down south La.

Baton Rouge being the capital of the state will have more upscale areas than Shreveport-Bossier. Bossier is just a big bedroom community and retail corridor of Airline Drive but no real "city identity" really. Shreveport... oh brother, I don't even want to get started. Just do an Advanced Search of the Shreveport forum or scroll back a few pages and you'll get all the pros & cons you could want. Lotsa Southern Baptists, very conservative to the point of being non-progressive. Median income of the area is just north of $30k and lots of low-paying retail jobs. Number #1 export is educated young people or young people seeking education out of state thanks to Gov. Jindal's severe cuts in higher education.

I will say NW La. has some really nice scenery and lakes, river, etc. so if you're into fishing, hunting and outdoors...it's not bad. A bit of a Redneck Paradise if you look at the demographics.
