Maybe Ralph & Kacoo's, Earnest's, Shane's, casino buffets and a handful of others... but I've been to many of these and they miss the mark when compared to places down South La. We've got fried food joints and boiled crawfish but anything resembling a Galatoire's, Prejeans, Commander's Palace or Emeril's... nope, zilch, nada. Shreveport is a masquerade... it even promotes local itself as "Louisiana's Other Side"... whatever the hell that means

Shreveport is more about some East Texas oil & gas town that never grew up. And as far as Louisiana overall is concerned... given the political leadership that keeps getting elected to office, we have to wonder if any voters really pay attention to what's going on politically speaking as far as our state leadership is concerned. That's one reason why we rank so poorly in education, health, etc. We're soo concerned about federal overreach that we allow our leadership to rally emotions to fight against any progress be it educational, healthcare, etc. Unbelieveable!

And just the amount of trash I see everywhere and decay, it's not a good impression. Years ago Toyota toured the northern part of the state to consider the Monroe area for a new Toyota assembly plant. They passed and went to northern Mississippi of all places. One bit of feedback the Toyota folks shared with local Econ Dev. folks was that they saw soo much trash and disrepair around the communities they looked at, citing that if local folks didn't care that much for their community... how could they have any pride in their work?
True story revealed by local anti-trash groups in this area. Such info is quite telling... seems many have grown so accustomed to the trash and disrepair that they no longer see it for what it is. But hey, we got crawfish, music festivals and goodtimes...don't we?
Pretty much. if I grew up further south, I wouldn't think of LA the way I do. I thought all of LA was just worthless except as a glass parkinglot until I spent some time down south. Nope. Just North LA. Dump./

THere are initiatives to clean up Acadiana and something called Project front Yard encouraging people to pick up their litter. You are very correct about this being a significant problem. I shake my head when I see all the great stuff down here and then how people just trash everything up. Its sad. Theres a lot of wonderful stuff to be proud of here and it should look the part. I think as more people move here and bring new perspectives, the junk will start to clear. Its already happening in many places. But it will take a long time to change local attitudes towards casual littering.

This being a section about Shreveport though I can sense that things are not going so well up there. It is almost literally like a different state. Geographically it is cut off from the lower half where most of the action and progress has been. Its not really fair to Shreveport.

Shreveport is a different world than South LA. I didn't fully appreciate that until I went down around New Orleans for some training, and saw how polite the people were, and how different they behaved.

San Antonio must have not participated. Those women are huge.

Yep. Been there, though, and there are two kinds of women there. Cows, and hot one's. Shreveport just seems to have jello. After 30 or so, most women in Shreveport are at various stages of obesity, while a small group of them retain their fitness, it isn't enough to tip the scale.

Also, love your SN. Did a report on HPL when I went to middle school in LA (got out for highschool), and that guy...man...he was like the drunk uncle everyone cringed over but secretly couldn't be waited for to arrive at the family reunion for much the same reason.

All the negativity "here" (CD) borders on abuse. Shreveport is a community, and you're within your rights to not like it, but definitely not to start a hate movement around it. Replace Shreveport with some ethnic group and you'll get my drift. Most criticism is tasteless, and the tiniest event is blown out of proportion. This should be more like a "club" to welcome new residents, not an annex to the Shreveport haters' office for public humiliation and flogging.

See, but there is a reason people hate Shreveport. I mean, go read some of the other city boards here. Sure, they all contain SOME threads that are negative, but almost every single thread about SP is negative. That should tell people something. I really wish I had been warned before I moved to Shreveport, and now that I'm out, I try my best to warn others away from it, and explain WHY, as well.
