Hello to Everyone--we are looking to relocate to the Shreveport area next year to be closer to my husband's work. He works in the oil field outside of Tyler, TX. He drives through Shreveport every 2 weeks & really likes it. Our choices are Dallas & Shreveport and we don't want the hussle & bussle of the BIG city like Dallas. Been there-done that!!

We are just starting to look into the relocation process now. We don't want to jump into anything to fast. I've found this forum very helpful so far. But I haven't found much information about living on or near the Lake. Is there type of housing/properties on the Lake? Where could I get more info about that area? Is the area very expensive?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, can you tell me if you actually relocated to Shreveport and if so, how is it? We may be relocating there in the near future.

Thank you!!

As with anyplace, lakefront property will usually command a higher than average price and Shreveport-Bossier is no exception. There may be some hidden deals and you'll need to research the market to find those. But here's some info you may find useful.

CROSS LAKE: This is Shreveport's closest lake that features a variety of properties..some good and others less so. The South Lakeshore Drive is the most convenient to the city as it's connected to the I-220 inner loop that can connect you to N. Bossier and South Shreveport pretty quick.
There are planned communities around the lake like Willow Ridge (very pricey) and a few others. Some of these are larger Condo-like homes on small lots and others can be detached homes in gated communities... some have "Lakefront Views" others... well maybe you'll see the lake...maybe not.

There is North Lakeshore Dr. and there is a mixture of property...some planned...a lot of private homes and a mish-mosh of older properties. North lakeside takes longer to drive to and from Shreveport and it's not the most convenient.

There is Wallace Lake in South Shreveport.... it's mostly older property and it has a nasty habit of flooding during heavy rains.

Cypress Lake in Benton (North Bossier actually) is nice and has more newer properties ...some on the lake...others nearby. Nice area and again...pricey.

Lake Bisteneau in South Bossier is a typical scenic Louisiana-style lake with lots of Spanish Moss and finger-bayous that stretch throughout the area. Probably less expensive than most and most properties are private homes...not too many "developments" that I'm aware of but I'm sure that will change over time...especially with the new Teague Parkway extension to the South Bossier are which will make travel a bit more convenient, especially to hop on the Jimmy Davis Bridge to South Shreveport's Youree Drive shopping mecca.

I'd suggest you spend time around Cross Lake and take in the views...consider the surrounding area... because like a lot of communities...there are things that really need to be understood before taking the plunge with an investment in a lake house... they don't always sell as fast as you might think for a variety of reasons. So look before you leap.
