I think we're about to buy a lake lot in the Smithland Estates subdivision off of East Linton Road in Benton. Can anyone tell me anything about this area? Are people in this area friendly, or Benton people in general?

Never heard of Smithland Estates, but yes Benton is generally a very friendly town. And since Benton and Bossier City merge together along Airline Drive now, Benton is also extremely convenient to city life. Sounds good!

I live very close to Benton and I haven't come across anyone unfriendly.

But, I will tell what a dear friend told me many years ago - I asked him if the people in a specific area were nice - he responded - how were the people where you came from?

So, ask yourself, are the people nice where you are now?

I was in Benton last week. Every time I go through that town, the people are always friendly. Even the cops are friendly, if you're on the right side of the law, that is.
I commented about that to a local woman, and she said, "That's 'cause they's all good Christian men,"

There's a little convenience store up on RT 3 that sells fried catfish, chicken, fries, and some pretty good coleslaw and pickled tomatoes. If you ask real nice, they'll even fry you up some fresh.

Yes, Benton people are very friendly. I did live in Haughton for 10 years and the people were not friendly at all. I have lived in Benton a little over a year and have been in Benton for three years now. Huge difference.
