I am a single mom with a ten year old daughter who may be offered a job as an engineer in Shreveport and I am considering accepting the job if offered.Iwould be relocating from Fort Lauderdale Florida.I do have a few questions though before I make this decision:are there any decent schools around the Shreveport area, public or even private.Also,where would be the best areas to consider living.I may also have to work some at night so is there affordable babysitting services?

You would want to stay to the southeast in Shreveport or South or North Bossier City. These areas have the best schools and the safest neighborhoods in the metro. Some schools for your daughters age include St. Marks (Episcopal), St. Josephs (Catholic), Southfield (secular); these are private. Public would include A.C. Steere in Broadmoor, Shreve Island, Riverside, and Arthur Circle. South Highlands is very good as well. I know many who have gone to school in these schools and did well in HS and college.

Hi SB,
Well she did mention she had a 10 year old daughter and she was interested in schools. Perhaps I'm missing something

I agree SE Shreveport is a good choice. So is N. Bossier and S. Bossier. Golden Meadows, Plantation Trace, etc.
There are faith-based schools (Catholic and Baptist) which are considered good. The Caddo Magnet school is regarded highly. St. Joseph's, Loyola Prep, Calvary, Evangel come to mind.
Drive times to just about anywhere in Shreveport-Bossier are approx 20 minutes (+/-) depending on time of day, route, etc.
Like any cities, Shreveport - Bossier has good and not-so-good places.
I live in S. Bossier and have for quite awhile. Just a quick hop across the Jimmie Davis Bridge and I'm at the Youree Drive Corridor which is S'ports main shopping/dining area. Looks like a lot of cities in the US along Youree Drive if that's your thing.
The center of Shreveport is spotty as far as neighborhoods go... the Highland area has nice older homes but go one or two blocks in any direction and that can change real fast. Broadmoor Terrace is pretty nice as is University Terrace in Shreveport. The further west you go in Shreveport, it can get iffy IMHO. So SE S'port, N. or S. Bossier would be my recommendations. Other areas aren't bad but depends on a number of factors. Good luck.

I live in S. Bossier and have for quite awhile. Just a quick hop across the Jimmie Davis Bridge and I'm at the Youree Drive Corridor which is S'ports main shopping/dining area. Looks like a lot of cities in the US along Youree Drive if that's your thing.
