Shreveport is 2-2.5 hours north of Fort Polk. I don't think you're moving to Shreveport? Perhaps Alexandria?

Ft. Polk is alot closer to Leesville than Alexandria OR Shreveport..And there isn't much to Leesville, but it's not terrible.

Most people stationed at Fort Polk live in Leesville or Deridder. My DH use to work at Fort Polk and they stayed at an apartment in Deridder. There are lots of bars and stuff. I'm not really sure what you're looking for. We don't really go out either so I don't know.
I would think that a young couple would look more towards Deridder to live. Both towns have a population under 10,000 but they have a lot of young military people. There's plenty of shopping and restaurants. It's a cool place.

Alexandria is about an hour away from Fort Polk. There are a number of bars in Alexandria but Pineville, across the river, is a dry area. It has a small college, LSUA, that is expanding. Alexandria is an average sized city with about 50,000. But if you want to be very close to Fort Polk, you will probably want to choose the Leesville-DeRidder area.
