I am an elementary school teaching moving to Shreveport/Bossier this summer. My husband has orders for Barksdale. What is the job market like there for teachers? We are coming from Florida and half the year they talk about having to lay off sooooo many teachers and the other half they are hiring new ones.

Is it easy to get a job as a newcomer not from the area? I know my current district in FL really likes to hire products of their school district (like myself).

I've only applied to Bossier Parish...should I apply to any other one? I'm 99% sure we will be living in Bossier. We are currently looking for a home in a neighborhood near the base.

Barksdale personnel have long been members of this city and I have known many who got teaching jobs in Bossier City, Bossier Parish. Shreveport and Caddo are possible as well, however; driving time is lessened by applying over here in BC.

There are always positions to fill and the school board has not yet faced a budget shortfall (unlike the city; an accounting error-go figure). It's not too hard to get on-however, contact the BPSB in Benton (parish seat). Parishes are counties in the rest of the states. I'm not sure if you need Louisiana history(?). A certification from another state will work here. Note: wife says she never had Louisiana history and she is a teacher at Parkway High School.

hdwell,

Thanks for the input. I have submitted my applicaiton to Bossier Parish School District. They did tell me my Florida certificate would work...didn't mention anything about Louisiana history.

Glad to hear they are having a budget crisis like we are in Florida. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks again!
