Can anyone give me a current opinion of SW Shreveport, specifically Bert Kouns near Dean Rd. My daughter and son-in-law just rented an apt in Springridge Apts. When we drove there, it seemed like I saw quite a bit of new businesses, girl scouts out selling cookies on the corner, etc. It seemed like it would be a decent area for them to live. She'll be attending LSUHSC and he'll be looking for a High School teaching job. After reading some of the older posts, I'd just like to hear some current thoughts.

I'm trying to figure out the same. If you google "shreveport crime map" it will show you a map where crimes have been committed in the last couple months. It has made me want to live WAY north or WAY south or WAY east or WAY west. Maybe someone who lives there will give us their opinion.

Considering the size of the city, I am sure there are pockets of crime that are gang and drug related. I have visited many times and never had a problem. Of one thing I am sure, you won't find much crime - if any - in a block with a church on the corner. There a couple of ways to find a safe area. Talk to realtors, talk to the police and/or parish priest. You may not have to live as far out as your think.

I am not too sure I trust google maps too much as it still mis-maps streets and does not provide major thoroughfares. You could call the police dept and ask if the PD has a crime map online.

Maybe some of the forum regulars will get online and help you.

Shreveport as a whole is safe, there are however places to avoid. Dean road south of Bert Kouns is not bad, north of Bert Kouns is not the greatest but still not bad. That part of town as a whole is a convenient location to the growing south side of Shreveport. I personally dont live in Shreveport I live 20 miles north in Mooringsport I do, however, have family that live not far from Dean road and Bert Kouns and they dont have a complaint.
