Hey all, I am a teacher in Ohio - things not looking good there, my position has been eliminated along with a lot of other ones in my area. Looking to get out.

Had a phone interview with Sioux Falls schools, for possible positions in schools close to downtown. Reading other posts, some people say "avoid downtown areas like the plague" while others say "it's not too bad". Anyone care to weigh in? Are the schools around downtown SF really as bad as those in larger cities tend to be?

Sioux Falls Schools did a major budget cut due to a funding shortfall. A new job might not be an option for now.

No the downtown isn't too bad....They did just cut I think about 40-50 positions so I'm not really sure if they are hiring right now....

I read about the budget cuts - there are still several positions available in my area, however. Admittedly that is still a concern for the future. Obviously don't want to end up in the same boat a year from now. Still, it seems to be not quite as bad as Ohio - our governor also cut funding, and is going to cut it again the following year.
Tell me about this 'opt-out' term I keep reading - things are structured differently in Ohio, we just do bond issues and levies.
Thanks for the info so far - would still welcome other thoughts about the downtown area and schools.
