We are relocating to Sioux Falls from Michigan. Due to the horrendous real estate market in MI, we are forced to short-sale our home here. This prevents us from getting a mortgage for a couple of years so we are looking to rent. We are a family of five so we will need 4 bedrooms and need a pet-friendly place. I have found a few places on craigslist, but already have been invited into a scam through one listing there , so hoping to find a more reputable source for help. We likely will not have an opportunity to view the home before we move which makes it difficult. Any advice or suggestions would be wonderful. We are hoping to find a nice house in a great neighborhood. No apartments.

P.S. We are clueless about where the "nice" areas are, so any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi and welcome. You can try the link above to see if you can find rentals. I totally understand what you're saying about Craigslist. I've been reading quite a bit about them and they've gone downhill.

SO, good luck in your search and hopefully someone can come along with another link or two for you.

Actually, I recommend just contacting one of the property management places listed in the yellow pages. We have an 85lbs. golden retriever, nobody wanted to rent to us and we only needed 2 bedrooms. I finally started calling prop.mgmt. places to see what I could find that way and we found a beautiful townhouse in a great neighborhood and a reasonable price.
Mostly in Sioux Falls, you want to stay south of 18th street and you'll pretty much find nice family friendly neighborhoods. Prop.Mgmt. places can help you narrow down the areas of town you'd be happiest with.

A coworker of mine lived here, and moved out to MI for a job... They ended up moving back here because of the conditions out there...

As far as sources, here is one I found:
Apartments in Sioux Falls Rental - Sioux Falls Rental .com
Contacting the chamber of commerce may be of help too, but I'm not sure if they do that sort of thing?

Good areas: Between I-29 & I-229, I would stay south of 18th/22nd Street. West of I-29, stay south of 12th. Most everything east and south of I-229 should be good areas too.

Not so good areas: West of downtown, north of downtown (State Penitentiary area), and the area bordered by East 10th Street, Minnesota Ave, Benson Road, and I-229.

If you go to maps.google.com, and search for Sioux Falls, you can find these areas.
