Give it a little more than 12 hours time before getting impatient. It was a beautiful June weekend day, so a lot of people were probably out enjoying the day. Being a very sparsely populated state, there are many fewer people here to respond in the first place, and the area you are asking about is very specific. In general, people around here won't comment on a request like this unless they have specific information.
Longfellow elementary: Overall standardized test scores are very low. The student population draws from one of the lower income areas of the city, something like 70% of the students are on reduced or free lunch programs. It's also an area of the city where the students first language is more likely to be something other than English than some of the other neighborhoods. Student/teacher ratio is very low for Sioux Falls, so class sizes will be smaller. I have not heard a lot of comments about teachers and the principal, but what I have heard have been positive.
The area to the north of Longfellow all the way to downtown is a lower income area of the city, a lot of the older, bigger houses have been sub-divided into efficiency apartments. The downtown area also attracts the homeless and transient population such as it is. Can't give any specific info on the South Main apartments.

I can understand the heat and hurricanes in Florida for wanting to relocate BUT come January, you are going to be soooo sorry. Not knowing what kind of income level you are in - how much rent you can afford - makes it difficult to recommend a good area in Sioux Falls. There are several really great areas for schools and raising children but some of the rents are in the $800 + a month levels too. As far as being Jewish, that should be no problem in Sioux Falls - there is a small Jewish community here. I find very little religious prejudice in Sioux Falls. Welcome!!
The snow's not terrible and city does a reasonable job of clearing streets. What gets most people from warm weather areas is the weeks and months of cold on end. Yes, most can handle sub-freezing temperatures, and it's no big deal for a few days. But when you hit that 3rd straight month with the temperature never getting above 35, and half those days never above 20, it's beyond what most moving here are comfortable with.
