Ronaldo is an amazing player, but Messi is clearly better than him.
The only reason this debate keeps on going is because Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player (the media's team).
The exact same thing happened when Robinho was signed and they called him "The new Pele" and kept on asking "Who's better, Robinho or Messi?"
He is playing on one of the most ridiculously amazing teams to have ever existed. If you took Messi away from Barcelona, they still would have thrashed ManU. The same cannot be said if we were to remove Ronaldo from the then ManU or Real Madrid. We are all entitled to our own opinions, and on an individual basis I still think Ronaldo is the most dangerous attacker the world has seen since the Brazillian Ronaldo. When Messi is able to play without his crutches (Iniesta and Xavi), and still produces similar performances, then I might be convinced. Unfortunately, since that day will never come, I can only go off of what I've seen him do alone when playing for Argentina. Not at all impressed....

Although I prefer Messi's personality over Ronaldo's (I can't stand that childish showboat), I mostly agree with your post. Xavi and Iniesta are phenomenal players (Iniesta is my favorite player) that disperse sublime passes as if it were nothing. Without these two, Messi has it harder to carry a team.
But give the boy some credit, he's only 23. His best years are yet to come .
