I dunno. I didn't see much flopping out there today if at all. Really a nice fluidity to it overall.

The men's game for whatever reason tends to be a bit more floppy on the world cup scene. Wish it would improve in that manner, but I guess it's like basketball...'fouls' are all a part of the physical, aggressive nature of the sport. But when I've watched US men's pro soccer, it seems there is much less of theatrics...so I think people should check out the US pro teams.

I presume mankind to you is your own back yard, everybody knows soccer is the most watched sport in the world.
2010 NFL avg attendance: 66,960
2010 NCAA FBS football: 45,912
2010 MLB avg attendance: 30,141
2010-2011 NHL avg attendance: 17,460
2010-11- avg NBA attendance: 17,031
2010 MLS avg attendance: 16,675

MLS may catch and pass the lowly NBA and NHL, but they will never reach baseball and football, barring some sort of miracle.

Do you behave this way when your baseball team fails to win the World Series every year?

Win or lose, I support the USA. They clearly tried hard all tournament. In fact, I wish the men's team would regularly display the same fight and determination. Still, this was Japan's day. Kudos to them.

And to the baseball haters -- baseball IS infinitely more popular than soccer in the U.S. The overall attendance figures and TV ratings prove that. Get over it.

I really hate soccer threads getting hijacked by soccer haters and turned into a pissing match between soccer and some other sport (baseball in this case)... If you don't like soccer, don't watch it and for god's sake STOP posting in the SOCCER forum. You don't see me posting in the baseball forum, do you? And why even respond to that?? Don't feed the trolls!

Bottom line, Japan earned the win today, kuddos to them... That doesn't mean I won't support my team, The U S of A. Win or lose, those ladies played hard and were fun to watch.. Hope they do well in the Olympics and next World Cup.

I don't care what some chump in Sri Lanka does for recreation. Don't change the sport. 0-0 ties always make for a good time. And why can't the rules change? Rules change in other sports all the time.

Yes I do and the Milwaukee Brewers Bucks and all our other sports teams have been failures in the last 800 years or so it seems. I was very happy to see the brewers make the playoffs for the first time in 26 years but in the end they failed to bring home a championship. I will always support my team even when they are losing 100+ games a year(2001). I don't settle for little victories. You should be trying to win a championship every year you play. Teams can have great years say making it to the world series but in the end you failed as a team to win the championship. Besides I never said anything about hard work and how easy it is to reach the championship. I am saying that when you fail to win the championship your season is a failure. Yes you have progressed but the end goal should be rings!

I am a relatively inexperienced soccer fan but it seemed everytime the US went up they shifted into the soccer equivilant of the prevent defense instead of pressing Japan the way they did when the score was tied. One lesson that seemed to carry from american football to world football - Prevent Defenses only Prevent you from winning.

Hat tip to the gritty girls of Japan, that was truly a never say die performance. They deserved the win. And to team USA - thanks for a great run.

That goal by the Japanese to tie it at 2-2 was amazing. Incredible angle. I don't think the U.S choked at all. If you guys were watching the tourney, the Japanese came back against the Swedish and Germans. They're a very disciplined team that counter attacks and takes advantage of their opponents miscues more than anything. They don't get rattled when down and if you noticed before the shootout, they were smiling and seemed very relaxed. Btw, Alex Morgan is a cutie!

Agree, they started playing keep away instead of remaining aggressive. When Japan scored in the 117th minute, that did to the U.S. what the U.S. did to Brazil when they scored their very late goal: sucked the life out of the U.S. & it showed in the PKs.
