I have watched many football matches and have noticed that many are interested despite the difficulty of scoring goals.

Is it because many are more focused on how the players try to outplay each other using strategies rather than the score?

When I have conversed with people in countries where football is not very popular (Australia, Canada, India, Mongolia, New Zealand, US, etc.) many of those who expressed their lack of interest state that it stems from a lack of scoring.

For those who watch football, is scoring less important?

Scoring is very important. In soccer every goal matters and that is part of the appeal to me. Most goals are will earned and fought for. I liken the game to chess. Lot's of strategy and back and forth action.

Here in the US many would gripe about lack of score but I think it's really about their lack of understanding the game and they toss out the low scoring aspect because it's easy.

The fact that every goal could be a winner means there is extra excitement and atmosphere when a goal is scored, in basketball for example if somebody gets a basket the crown reaction is a little more 'meh' because you know that the score is going to be one of many, the fans go absolutely crazy when a goal is scored because it means so much more.

I enjoy the footwork involved in soccer so just seeing how players outsmart one another is part of the appeal to me. Getting goals is part of it as well, but I much prefer to see goals scored through teamwork than penalty kicks and whatnot.
