Just a little reminder to the FIFA guys who control the images for TV transmissions of the World Cup matches:

"A player is in an offside position when closer to the opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second-to-last defender (usually the last outfield player, the goalkeeper counting as last defender), and also in the opponent's half of the pitch."

source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offsid...on_football%29

In the third goal of Brazil against Cameroon today, Fred was NOT closer to the opponent's goal line than the ball, at the moment when the ball was launched from the other Brazilian player.

Fred was closer to the opponent's goal line than the second-to-last defender, but NOT closer than the ball.

But the morons of FIFA who control the images for TV transmission showed to the whole world an "offside line" that only took in consideration the second-to-last defender, but completely ignored the position of THE BALL, that was closer to Cameroon's goal line than Fred was, at the moment of the passing.

So, Fred was NOT in offside position, and the third goal of Brazil was completely legal.

To make it clearer:

(this is not FIFA's official image, this one was made by a Brazilian TV channel)

This camera angle is perfect:

Fred is clearly behind the line of the ball

The referee was totally right in considering this goal to be legal

Yeah, I have been trying to explain offsides to my kids over the last week, which is more difficult than expected. The erroneous image on the TV set off a debate in my house about what is offsides. I had to say the TV image was wrong.

Mala, I may use your above photos to help explain. Thanks.
