LOL at all the angry anti soccer guys who went from, "I enjoy soccer, but..." to "at least football doesn't suck like soccer because XYZ".

Just give it up. The world had chosen what sport they want to use as the ultimate athletic competition. They chose soccer and no amount of delusional posturing and chest puffery from zealous Americans is going to take that away. You can say the world sucks all you want but there isn't this massive collective delusion about the sport, they love it. It's not boring to them. Its beautiful to them. Why can't you guys just let that be? Also Americans are getting into it. Yes, home grown Americans. Let that be too.

There's more troll threads on here about why soccer sucks than actual posts about the WC! I'm gonna go troll the football threads and call it hand egg, and laugh when you guys quip back that it's called that because the oval ball is a foot long. LOL.

I like both football and soccer. I'm not sure what the problem is.

The irony is that the majority of the English speaking world* calls it soccer, not football. So people getting their knickers in a twist because of the use of the word soccer when speaking English is a tad silly.

*USA, Australia, NZ, Ireland, Canada... all call it soccer, because they all have indigenous sports that they call "Football".... American Football, Rugby Football, Aussie Rules Football, Gaelic Football, Canadian Football etc etc.

Only USA and Canada, mate. Australia and New Zealand changed their associations from soccer to football in the 2000s to keep pace with the rest of the world. In Ireland the association is called football not soccer.

So please stop spreading disinformation. No one is getting worked up over soccer, just that the name sounds a bit silly.

Sorry, mate, you're the one spreading disinformation here.

It doesn't matter what the national Assocs are called. That's not what people, i.e the man on the street, call it.
For example, in Ireland, Football = Gaelic, Soccer = Soccer.
Here, take a look at the sports section of the the Irish National Broadcaster, RTE, and Ireland's three biggest daily newspapers....
RTÉ Sport: Irish and International Sport News, Fixtures and Results
Sport - Independent.ie
Sports News | Latest Sports Results & Fixtures | The Irish Times
Sport | Irish Examiner

What do you see there? Yeah, that's right mate, they all call it Soccer.

The name Soccer is an ENGLISH word, invented by ENGLISH people, and used throughout the ENGLISH speaking world. There is nothing silly about the name.
