Currently, many of us would agree that Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two most popular football clubs in the world but how popular were they in the 90s & early 2000s?

Were they as popular in the 90s to early 2000s as they are today or were Italian clubs more or equally as popular?

Real Madrid has been very popular since the mid 50's, Barcelona became big in the 90's and huge in the 00's.
