A rogue federation of nations would be amazing. Many of the nations in Blatter's pockets are irrelevant on the global stage. It won't happen, though. Too much money to be made with FIFA even with Blatter and the corruption.

Re: "That would be a way for Europe to pressure Russia, but football shouldn't really be used as a political stick"

Well on that I'd have to say that is exactly what the world will see when Russia showcases the game three years from now. Like Sochi, the Cup will fit in Putin's idea of using sports in aggrandizing 'his' Russia.

Interesting to note that the murdered Russian opposition leader Nemtsov had a bit to say on the corruption involved in the Sochi Olympics. He also thought the same for the upcoming Cup. He noted that since the current economic condition of the country was in recession it was no time to be spending about 18 billion on the Cup.
Will be interesting in how the country pulls off the football. 'Putinho' is gonna love it.

UEFA is the NFL, NBA, NHL, & MLB of its game to have power & influence over any international sports organization.

NFL = A league of its own entity.

NBA > FIBA

NHL > IIHF

MLB > IBAF

UEFA > FIFA

The End!

João Havelange (from Brazil) and Julio Grondona (from Argentina, now dead) and their "successors" possibly have more influence than the entire UEFA. The problem is that they both were corrupt.

I meant to text for UEFA should have the assertive control over FIFA b/c all of the best footballers play in Europe.

Just like how the NBA, NHL, & MLB have assertive control over FIBA, IIHF & IBAF b/c all of the best players play in North America.

The NBA told FIBA how to modernize its rules of the game such as 4 quarters & 3 officials than 2 periods & 2 officials on the court.

The NHL demanded IIHF to tell the Olympic Committee to provide compensation for the NHL players during the Olympic event b/c of any possible injuries when the NHL had to shutdown in the middle of its season.

The MLB made its own World Baseball Classic event prior to its season rather to follow the IBAF's calendar event to host games during the Summer season b/c of the MLB's middle of its season.

I guess UEFA does not have the guts to pull such clout in its beautiful game?

UEFA doesn't have this power because it's been dominant for 10 or 15 years only. Before that CONMEBOL clubs were at the same level of European clubs and their national teams still are at the same level. Even the clubs aren't that different - Corinthians beat Chelsea in 2012, Estudiantes lost to Barcelona in extra time, Internacional beat Ronaldinho and Messi's Barcelona in 2006 etc.

Also the Asian clubs/national teams are growing fast, same for American teams and CONCACAF.

I'd hope so, but it's improbable.

Im ok with qatar hosting if they can pull it off, though the human rights abuse is sickening (and common, sa and brazil).

I feel like Africa will win the qatari world cup. Last world cup, both ghana and algeria played well enough to beat Germany, the same Germany that destroyed pretty much everyone else...including the mighty and host brazil 6-1, or 7? Lmao
