Home and away colors don't match on many European soccer/football teams. Here in the U.S. all of your basketball, baseball, and football teams use consistent colors. Why do European teams not use consistent colors? From an American perspective, it seems strange.

Teams have an away kit in the event of their normal kit being too similar to that of the opposing team's.

They change the design of their kit on a regular basis especially if they get a new sponsor, but needless to say increased revenue from replica shirt sales drives this.

I think he's probably talking about how away kits change significantly over time, like the Real Madrid away kit. There are also special kits (third kit) that can be quite different. The answer is money.

For example, both home and away for New York Jets are green and white. For Juventus, home is black and white, but away is blue, and sometimes I see them in pink.

The whole point in home and away jersey's is they have to be different. You wear away (usually) when your home matches the other teams jersey too much. The third jersey is a just a money thing, ive never wasted a penny on one.

Do they wear home jerseys at home, and the away jerseys at the opponent's stadium? Or is it based on the other team's colors? In the U.S. home is used at home, and away is used at away.

That's actually not true. The home team (in any sport) gets the opportunity to select which jersey they wish to wear, and the away team then needs to choose their jersey to differentiate themselves.

For example, during the first month of the NFL season, the Carolina Panthers will always wear their white "away" jersey's at home, due to the heat factor and make the away team wear their "home" jerseys.

simple: the US is the one behind the times because some team (vast majority or time with the only usual exception being yellow) always has to wear white.

Like it's the 1950's and we're watching black and white t.v. !

in Europe as long as the colors don't clash both can wear 'solid' uniforms. Royal blue and red don't clash so you'll see it all the time for instance.

it's much better and I still rack my brain as to why we've never got over our obsession with a team always having to wear white.
