Inter Miami CF 3, Orlando City SC 2

2020 MLS Match Recap:

Inter Miami CF opened their new home stadium in style Saturday night, defeating Orlando City SC, 3-2, for their first Major League Soccer win.

Julian Carranza struck for a brace and Rodolfo Pizarro had a goal and an assist as Inter Miami avenged a loss to their Florida rivals in the opening match of the MLS is Back Tournament last month.

Carranza opened the scoring in the 12th minute on a quick counter after a turnover in midfield, taking a touch into the box off a feed from Pizarro and beating Pedro Gallese inside the near post.

Daryl **** responded with his first MLS goal six minutes later to level for the Lions. The forward powered into the box and followed up the rebound of his first saved shot and a second blocked effort with a deflected attempt past Luis Robles.

Carranza’s second MLS goal came five minutes later, latching onto a long Ben Sweat cross and lofting his headed attempt across goal and in from just inside the six.

Pizarro fired home a first-time goal from 12 yards out in the 49th minute to extend the expansion side’s lead and the Mexican international nearly added his second moments later, but he put his attempt off the back post.

A powerful header by Nani at the back post after connecting on a Chris Mueller cross gave Orlando City late life. But Inter Miami held off the surge and celebrated a historic first win.

Goals
12’ — MIA — Julian Carranza
18’ — ORL — Daryl ****
23’ — MIA — Julian Carranza
49’ — MIA — Rodolfo Pizarro
80’ — ORL — Nani

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: They’d take a first-ever MLS win any way they could get it, but after five one-goal defeats, to take three points in a one-goal win surely makes it sweeter. And that it comes against an Orlando City squad that rallied late to beat them at MLS is Back? Yeah, all the feels.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: There were first MLS goals, but the nod goes to Pizarro for a goal that ended up being the winner, but more so for a unique celebration that is truly a sign of our times.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Carranza made the most of his start, scoring his first two MLS goals to set the tone on Inter Miami CF’s historic night.

I started to watch the game LIVE, off all places from Portugal, as Nany plays for the Orlando City Lions and he is a Portuguese Citizen, The Stadium looks good, but way too far away for my taste, when The Miami Fusion played there I had free Season Tickets for the first 4 Seasons, on the 3rd one I was already TireD from the drive there...In Season 4 if I went to 4-5 home matches that was it.

Can't wait for the time when they F I N A L L Y play in MIAMI, in a couple of years, If I am still around in SW Miami I will most certainly get Season Tickets. If the Stadium is anything like the Orlando one I am a happy Camper, that place ROCKS with a sell out of 28,000 29.000 people, here should be just as good, fer sure.

I have 2 Daughters in Seminole County Fans of the Lions and The Ladies Team, So I normally plan trips there and to the Stadium too, That Stadium is Gorgeous.

At any rate I was really tired last nite so I just went to sleep just before Miami scored the first Goal.

Saw the 10 minute highlites this AM on Youtube. Nice plays and Goals.

On the Stadium in Miami, I keep saying that Becks and People have a GREAT Solution and a Partner too, in case the Land where the Stadium is to be built doesn't finally pass the Health Requirements on chemicals residues found there.

WEst from there under 10 mls as the Crow Flies Florida International University Sits in their Gorgeous Campus with their Stadium used for NCAA Football and The Miami FC from the USL Leagues. The Facilites are in Place, Parking abounds, higways nearby make easy to get in and out, and it's a proven Venue.

FIU is a State University, and all it would be needed from Becks Group is to go in there and just make the Stadium Bigger and More Modern. That's It.

They would be investing, thus getting TAX breaks for Up Grading the Stadium of a State University with outside monies at a much, much smaller rate than developing a New Stadium from the ground up anywhere in South Florida/Miami Dade. THat's my take...If FReedom Park fails...It's time for them to get Riccardo Silva Stadium upgraded, move on and Miami FC can be playjng there along with 2 other entities in under 2 years time ....

FIU Would Be Trilled . Miamians Too, of course.

– Inter Miami CF and Atlanta United FC mutually decided not to play their scheduled match on Wednesday night as multiple sports teams protest racial injustice. The cancellation comes as protests have broken out across professional sports following the shooting of Jacob Blake by police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Nashville SC 1, Inter Miami CF 0 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Nashville SC came out on top in the battle between the two 2020 MLS expansion teams, defeating Inter Miami CF 1-0 at Nissan Stadium on Sunday courtesy of a superb goal from Anibal Godoy.

In their first home game since a memorable season opener in front of over 59,000 fans six months ago, Nashville edged a tight encounter over their fellow newcomers to gain their second win of the campaign. While clear-cut chances were few and far between, Nashville secured the three points thanks to an unstoppable strike from Godoy as the ball broke to him just outside the penalty area eight minutes into the second half.

The victory could have been made more straightforward for the hosts but Hany Mukhtar failed to convert a 73rd-minute penalty when his powerful shot bounced back off the crossbar. And in the final 10 minutes, Nashville were forced to withstand concerted pressure from a Miami team that made all five substitutes in one fell swoop with 16 minutes remaining.

Earlier, the first half had been dominated by two close calls from the referee. The first came after 17 minutes when Alex Muyl thought he had marked his first start for Nashville with a goal. The former New York Red Bulls winger got in between two Miami defenders at the back post to head in a deflected cross but after watching several replays on the pitchside monitor, referee Rosendo Mendoza decided that Muyl had gained an illegal advantage from a push in the back of Miami defender Andres Reyes.

Miami's moment to be frustrated with the officials followed later in the half. Matias Pellegrini looked to have a clear sight of goal as the ball broke to him toward the center of the penalty area before Walker Zimmerman threw himself in front of the ball to block the shot. Miami's players protested vehemently for a handball but, though he ball appeared to strike the Nashville defender's arm, it was not deemed sufficient for a penalty.

Three Things
THE BIG PICTURE: After back-to-back defeats on the road, Nashville will be delighted to get the three points on their return home. They now have seven points from five games since resuming regular-season action after having to be withdrawn from the MLS is Back Tournament. And, while they haven't gotten many plaudits for their style — something the team appeared to hint at with their riding the bus celebration for Godoy's goal — Gary Smith's team are showing they will not be pushovers for any team.
MOMENT OF THE MATCH: It has to be Godoy's strike early in the second half. The midfielder's technique was exemplary to beat Luis Robles in the Miami goal with his side foot from 20 yards. And, after having one goal chalked off in the first half, Nashville will feel that justice was done when this time a VAR check took place but the referee decided there was no foul in the buildup

MAN OF THE MATCH: Godoy's goal would likely have been sufficient to see him grab the man of the match honor but the Panamanian was excellent throughout his 61 minutes on the pitch, helping Nashville gain an element of control in the center of the pitch.

Atlanta United 0, Inter Miami CF 0 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Neither side managed to find a goal over 90 minutes, as Atlanta United and Inter Miami CF split the points in a 0-0 draw at Mercedez-Benz Stadium on Wednesday.

Cubo Torres had a good early chance for the Five Stripes and Nicolas Figal nearly got one for Miami in the first half, but neither managed to convert in a match that featured little by way of chances for either team.

Torres nearly opened the scoring for Atlanta 11 minutes into the contest, when Brooks Lennon sent in a pinpoint cross to the far post from the right flank, but the Mexican forward's attempt at a first-time finish sailed over the bar.

Miami had perhaps their best look of the first half in the 39th minute after Lewis Morgan sent in a dangerous ball in front of goal that just missed the head of Figal, who would have had a point-blank look on an open net.

Atlanta thought they may have had a penalty shout early in the second half when Ezequiel Barco teed up a shot from outside the area that appeared to go off the hand of Figal. Referee Guido Gonzales Jr. wouldn't oblige Atlanta's pleas, however, and allowed play to go on.

The visitors had another golden opportunity on a 56th minute corner kick that Victor Ulloa flicked on to Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, but the former Atlanta United man saw his shot go over the bar. Juan Agudelo also got close to a winner for Inter Miami just before the start of second-half stoppage time, but the veteran forward saw his headed attempt off a corner kick trickle just wide.

Goals
None

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: Fresh off the news that Designated Player Pity Martinez has been transferred to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr FC, Atlanta looked short on ideas in the attack, never really putting together a sustained stretch of dangerous play. Inter Miami had arguably the better of the chances on the evening, but they, too, remain goal-starved in their expansion season.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Cubo had his chance at giving Atlanta a huge boost with an early goal that would have changed the complexion of the match. Instead, the Five Stripes never got a better look.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Atlanta didn't make Miami work especially hard defensively, but we'll give it to Gonzalez Pirez for his work helping the visitors to a clean sheet against his former club.
