Inter Miami CF 0, Nashville SC 0 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

After an 80-minute weather delay, Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC played to a 0-0 draw in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday night.

The match was 0-0 at halftime, with both teams leaving chances on the table in the first 45 minutes. Inter Miami had several opportunities in the 6-yard box that they weren’t able to put away, including a shot that DP Rodolfo Pizarro volleyed wide in the 8th minute.

On the other end of the pitch, Nashville SC’s best opportunity came in the 24th minute off a shot from a free kick. Inter Miami goalkeeper Luis Robles made the initial save and then a defender cleared the ball off the line to keep the clean sheet.

It was a similar story in the second half — both teams had several chances to get a goal and take all three points, but it just wasn't meant to be at Inter Miami CF Stadium.

Nashville SC's Daniel Lovitz had a massive chance in the 80th minute when Robles came off his line, but put it wide of the post. Shortly after, Inter Miami earned a free kick at the top of the 18-yard box. Robbie Robinson took it low and through the wall, but it also veered off to the left of the goal.

At the final whistle, it ended in a scoreless draw.

Goals
None

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: Both expansion sides have been struggling in their initial seasons and are looking to get something going. Three points for Nashville SC would've put them in a competitive position for a playoff spot.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The Inter Miami SC attack was considerably more dangerous than Nashville SC, requiring goalkeeper Joe Willis to make a couple of big saves, including a fantastic kick save in the 57th minute.

MAN OF THE MATCH: While both goalkeepers played well, Nashville SC goalkeeper Joe Willis consistently made smart decisions and great saves to give his team the best possible chance for winning against the Inter Miami CF attack. While Nashville SC couldn’t get it done offensively, they can thank Willis for getting a point on the road tonight.

Inter Miami CF 2, Atlanta United 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Inter Miami CF took an entertaining 2-1 home victory over Atlanta United on Wednesday night, riding a brace from Lewis Morgan and some heroic goalkeeping from Luis Robles to their second victory of their expansion season.

The match was open from the start, and Inter Miami had a golden chance six minutes in when Robbie Robinson got free on a breakaway after receiving a ball over the top. He laid it off to Rodolfo Pizarro for what looked like an easy finish, but Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan managed to get a touch on Pizarro's ensuing shot and push the ball wide.

Miami continued to have the better opportunities throughout the opening stanza, and got rewarded with the opener courtesy of a 28th-minute counterattack that was spearheaded by Pizarro. The Mexican international dished the ball to Morgan as he charged down the right flank, setting up the Scottish winger with a shot from a difficult angle that he expertly slotted past Guzan.

But the Fives Stripes equalized in the 33rd minute on an odd play that saw Eric Remedi try to back-heel a cross on goal, only to see it blocked by Miami defender Andres Reyes. The deflection settled right in front Remedi, allowing the midfielder to slot home from his position on the ground.

Morgan restored the advantage on 38 minutes, however, controlling a feed from Ben Sweat near the top of the area and curling home a gorgeous finish past a sprawling Guzan to give Inter Miami a 2-1 lead.

All of that preceded a wild penalty-kick sequence, which started in the 40th minute when Nicolas Figal made an ill-advised challenge on Atlanta's Jon Gallagher just inside the area, drawing a foul call from referee Robert Sibiga.

Robles made a great diving save on Ezequiel Barco from the spot, but Cubo Torres crashed in to finish the rebound, only to see it wiped away on Video Review for encroachment. Barco was given a retake – it was ruled that a Miami player also encroached – which Robles denied again with another lunging save to the opposite side to preserve Miami's 2-1 lead.

Goals
28' - MIA - Lewis Morgan
33' - ATL - Eric Remedi
38' - MIA - Lewis Morgan

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: These Eastern Conference teams have struggled to score in 2020, so it was refreshing to see the wide-open, goal-filled first half, even if it calmed down in the second. In the end, it's a big win for Inter Miami as they try to build some momentum and stack points to climb the standings.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: It has to be Luis Robles' first-half heroics to deny Atlanta the equalizing penalty, both for the novelty and its greater significance in allowing Miami to earn all three points.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Robles' amazing double-denial of Barco is a good case for the veteran goalkeeper, but Morgan's brace made the difference on the scoresheet. Morgan's played well for Miami since arriving from Celtic, and then got his first two MLS goals. If this performance is a sign that the 23-year-old's ready to break out, it could provide a big boost for Diego Alonso's team.

Atlanta United 1, Inter Miami CF 2 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

Inter Miami CF scored all the goals they needed in the first 11 minutes of the match, beating Atlanta United 2-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday night.

This was definitely a first half you didn't want to be late for, with three goals coming in rapid succession. The first goal happened less than two minutes in, with Juan Agudelo finishing a break that Brek Shea initiated with a long upfield pass. In the fifth minute, Atlanta answered with Jon Gallagher rocketing in a shot after an assist from George Bello. With barely a breath able to be taken, Shea continued the hectic start to the game in the 11th minute. Lewis Morgan got a quick deep-field throw-in to Rodolfo Pizarro, who made a couple of touches and found Shea for a headed goal from the six.

Despite plenty of action in the resulting minutes, including some near-goals on both sides of the field, the first half finished 2-1. It was momentarily 3-1 thanks to an apparent Victor Ulloa goal where he chopped in a loose ball, but he was ruled offside via VAR, and the home side were only in a one-goal hole at halftime.

The frenetic pace continued to let off in the second half. Atlanta United sub Erick Torres had a nice 69th-minute chance at an equalizer, but Miami goalkeeper Luis Robles was able to smother the attempt and keep the lead. That's as close at Atlanta got to changing the trajectory of the match.

Goals
2' – MIA – Juan Agudelo
5' – ATL – Jon Gallaghet
11' – MIA – Brek Shea

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: Last week, a Nashville SC win allowed one 2020 expansion team to leap Atlanta in the standings. Tonight, it happened with the other 2020 expansion team. This is now six matches without a win for Atlanta, and they've won just once in 10 matches. For Miami, it's a big win and their first-ever in MLS on the road. Once they can work blockbuster new signing Gonzalo Higuain into the lineup, they could be a dangerous playoff team.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: It ultimately turned out to be the Shea goal. Had the result been different, the disallowed goal just before halftime might have been pivotal. But as it turned out, Miami didn't need a third goal.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Shea gets the nod here. His initiative led to the first goal, he got the game-winning second goal and put himself in a good spot for a second-half insurance goal he couldn't quite convert on.

Inter Miami CF 1, New York Red Bulls 4

2020 MLS Match Recap

The New York Red Bulls picked up a big road victory, riding an opening penalty kick from Mandela Egbo and goals from Brian White, Ben Mines and Daniel Royer to a 4-1 victory over Inter Miami CF on Wednesday.

After falling behind 1-0 thanks to the early PK, Miami fought back and leveled the contest when Juan Agudelo found a goal a few minutes before the halftime break. But White's first goal of the season just after the second-half restart would give the visitors a lead they wouldn't relinquish, as Mines and Royer put it out of reach with a pair of late tallies.

RBNY had a great look at the opener as the contest neared the 10-minute mark, when Mathias Jorgensen found himself with a breakaway attempt off a pinpoint throughball from Jared Stroud. Jorgensen beat Miami goalkeeper Luis Robles with the shot, but it rang off the crossbar.

The visitors would find their opener just a few minutes later, though, as Blaise Matuidi got tangled up with Stroud in his own penalty area, drawing a penalty kick whistle from referee Alex Chilowicz. That allowed Egbo to step to the spot, where he coolly sent Robles the wrong way and slotted home the finish to put RBNY ahead on 14 minutes.

Agudelo found Miami's equalizer in the 38th minute after a giveaway deep in RBNY's end allowed Matias Pellegrini to loft a ball over the top into the path of the veteran forward, who slotted the finish past Red Bulls' goalkeeper David Jensen and into the net.

RBNY jumped back out in front shortly after second-half kickoff, on a sequence that started when Ben Sweat was dispossessed on the left side of his own box. The ball eventually made its way to Omir Fernandez, who set up White with a cross for an easy finish.

Mines added the first insurance tally in the 85th, toe-poking home a rebound after Tom Barlow had the initial shot saved at the backend of a counter-attack, before Royer joined the party with the final goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Goals
14' - RBNY - Mandela Egbo (PK)
38' - MIA - Juan Agudelo
49' - RBNY - Brian White
85' - RBNY - Ben Mines
90'+1 - RBNY - Daniel Royer

Three Things

THE BIG PICTURE: It's been a tumultuous season for RBNY that saw them get off to a slow start and part ways with their coach, but with this emphatic three-point result they remain right in the thick of it above the Eastern Conference playoff line. Perhaps a big win on the road is what they needed to kick off a more consistent run of form than we've seen from them thus far in 2020.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: The momentum seemed to have swung to Miami near the end of the first half, culminating in Agudelo's equalizer that made it anybody's game. Then White turned that on its head with the go-ahead goal that put his team up for good.

MAN OF THE MATCH: RBNY's third goal was probably a cathartic moment for Ben Mines, who hasn't scored a first-team goal since his MLS debut in 2018. We'll give the nod to the 20-year-old for getting back on the scoresheet.
