Ok, if this World Cup isn't so politically-planned, why is the opening game Saudi Arabia vs Russia???

Jurgen mismanaged the team back-to-back cycles. Arena wasn't the right guy and Mexico dogged their last game against Honduras. It was a comedy of errors.

The very American answer to the US being crap at football is they didn't want to qualify for political reasons. Avoid the fact that football here is in terrible condition.

The WC in 2018 and 2022 are only there because of corruption, but there is already threads on that.

2-3 Results went against USA on that unfortunate day of Football. It cannot be planned-that will be a high level of match fixing. US is a big market, it was a big loss for FIFA financially. Football or say Sports is above petty politics. In Olympics, Russia or North korea or Iran or Cuba are all there along with Americans. Team USA did go to Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. Lets hope next time US will do a better job at the Qualifying.

USA will most probably host 2026 World Cup. Do you think they will plan to keep Russia, Iran away from Qualifying ??

That joint bid is a joke, the US should have went all in by themselves. They would have beat out the other countries, unless Morocco has the cash to bribe.

I disagree. I think that USMNT's issues run much deeper that Klinsmann's failed years at the helm. This is systemic in large part because the USSF itself lacks a sensible vision.

In some ways I think that the joint bid was a political decision. The United States will be hosting 75% of the matches, so for all intents and purposes it would be "our" World Cup. I think Morocco has a real chance of winning, though.

USA bid for 2022 World Cup failed. This time they are better prepared. Canada will help in sprucing up MLS brand along with the infrastructure. Mexico will carry Latin countries votes. Moroccoa will get few votes from Africa and Asia and probably Russia if voting is strictly per member country. I am not sure whether only FIFA council members vote !!!
