The drawing was in Moscow btw.

Venezuela and Iraq also voted for USA. On the other hand, countries created by USA like Taiwan, South Sudan voted for Morocco.

Now that FIFA has made the foolish decision to expand the field to 48 teams (a clear money grab and in the process watering down the tournament), you will see more joint bids going forward. Thanks for the NFL and college football, the US blows every other country out of the water when it comes to stadium infrastructure and could easily host the tournament over night without the need to build new stadiums or expand the ones they have. Now that FIFA is saying 16 more teams and 16 more games will be happening, that's going to put a lot of pressure on future host nations.

You are correct. For 2030 World Cup, a joint Bid has been placed by Argentina - Uruguay - Paraguay.

Super exciting news! With that said, it is sad that the only way the US was able to win a WC bid was by joining a joint-bid with other countries.. The corruption is REAL..

I know a couple of posters mentioned about qualifying... I think giving 3 countries a free pass is not fair to the other qualifiers. The bid is asking for all 3 nations.

That has not been determined yet, however Japan and South Korea were previously given the free pass. Why would you have a problem with host countries actually having their teams play when they host?

Because Japan and South Korea are playing in the current world cup without being a host, so I am relatively OK with it.

Mehico - I give it to them, USA is marginal at best, maybe it can get in without hosting. Does Canada have a soccer team ? or are they going to let the hockey team loose on the field ? They are the weakest link and are taking up a undeserving spot.

For what it’s worth, the 2026 World Cup will be the first Cup with 48 teams , up from 32....so there will be a net of an extra 13 teams if you exclude the 3 spots for the 3 host countries
